Following the presentation of the report
of Senate Committee on Constitution Review and the Public Presentation
of the Report of the House of Reps Public session on Constitution
Review, it has become imperative for citizens to debate the contents of
the reports and determine if the outcome truly reflects their
aspirations. The National Assembly has also hinted that plenary debates
on the report will commence upon resumption from their two-week recess.
It is against this background that a
second twitter conference is convened to harness citizens’ views on the
issues captured in the report, celebrate milestones, identify gaps and
develop strategies for effective lobbying and advocacy. If the preamble
of the 1999 constitution which begins with the phrase ‘we the people of Nigeria…’
must make any sense then the review process must not only ensure active
citizens participation but it must guarantee that the outcome of the
review process is a true reflection of the demands and aspirations of
the people.
The twitter conference is scheduled to hold on Thursday 13th June 2013 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. The Official Conference hash tag: #ConstReview
Through this twitter conference, we hope
to provide an open and friendly platform for harnessing citizens’ views
on the issues captured in the Senate/House of Reps report, share
information and articulate concrete steps that should be taken in
guaranteeing the evolution of a peoples constitution. At the end of
the conference, the technical team will analyze, harmonize and
articulate views expressed into a report that will inform the next level
engagement with members of the National Assembly.
Discussants at the twitter conference includes:
- Tolu Ogunlesi, @toluogunlesi
- Egghead Odewale, @eggheader
- Ayisha Osori, @naijavote
- Japheth Omojuwa, @omojuwa
- Chime Asonye, @chime_asonye
- Yemi Adamolekun @eienigeria
while the Conference will be Moderated by: YACOR @yacorng and Rotimi Olawale @rotexonline and Samson Itodo @DSamsonItodo
