International Human Rights Group, Amnesty International
has urged Nigerian authorities to end the use of
excessive force against Nigerians protesting
the removal of fuel subsidy.
In a press statement, Amnesty International’s
Deputy Director for Africa, Paule Rigaud said the
use of live ammunitions against the protesters
is completely unacceptable.
She said the duty of the police is to protect lives
and property and uphold the rule of law but that
has not been the case with the protesters.
The amnesty statement is coming after an
allegation that the police shot and
killed a 23 year old student,
Muyiden Mustapha in Ilorin the capital of Kwara.
However, police authorities denied
the allegation and promised to investigate the death.
